Take cards in person lets you charge a customer's card at checkout, on a card reader or with Tap to Pay. The money lands in your Stripe balance with your online payments and is paid out to your bank on your payout schedule. It's part of the paid plan, and it needs card payments set up first: see Where your money goes.
Turn it on
In Settings › Payments, under Cards in person, switch on Take cards in person. If your business address has no street, it asks for one: card readers need it, and it isn't shown on your booking page. The suburb, state and postcode come from Settings › Business.
Choose how you take cards
- A smart reader (a WisePOS E, an S700 or an S710) works from the dashboard and the app. Choose Order a card reader to buy one from Stripe, or Add a smart reader for one you already have: on the reader, open Settings and choose Generate pairing code, then type the code and a name for it. Ordering a reader is open once you're on a paid plan.
- Tap to Pay on Android takes the card on an Android phone, in the BeNotely app. Switch it on in the app under Settings › Payments › Cards in person.
- A WisePad 3 connects by Bluetooth to the BeNotely app on an Android phone. Add it in the app under Settings › Payments › Cards in person.
The BeNotely app is on Google Play.
At checkout
Under Payment method, choose Card reader, then Charge with the amount. The customer taps, inserts or swipes their card on the reader, and the visit is checked out once it's paid. In the app, choose Tap to Pay or your reader the same way. A New sale works the same.
When tips are on in Settings › Payments › Checkout and there's no tip on the bill, the reader (or the phone, with Tap to Pay) asks the customer for a tip, offering your Suggested tips. A split payment doesn't ask, so add any tip to the bill first.
Other card machine is still there for a card taken on a machine that isn't connected to BeNotely. It records the payment without charging anything.
What it costs
Each card payment in person costs Stripe's fee plus BeNotely's 0.30% + 5c, which comes to 1.95% + 15c on an Australian card. Settings shows the rate under Cards in person.

Can I take cards in person on an iPhone?
Use a smart reader from the dashboard on any computer, tablet or phone. Tap to Pay and the WisePad 3 work in the BeNotely app on Android.
What happens if my plan changes to Free?
